Contemporary literature

Nowadays, Japanese literature isn't any less popular than it was in the past, although most of works are made into anime or manga.
For instance Yoru Sumino and his novel I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is a very popular anime

Among contemporary Japanese authors belongs for example Keigo Higashino, Hiromi Kawakami, Keiichiro Hirano or Natsuo Kirino.

Also these days manga reading reached its peak and almost everyone all around the world knows what the term manga is.
Manga has lots of different genres such as shonen, shoujo, mecha or hentai.

Despite the huge upswing of manga and anime, most of the writers are trying to keep Japanese traditions and writing styles in their works,
which keeps Japanese literature unique and rich with culture.
